Advantages and disadvantages of USP

The design of the insulated Swedish stove directly affects the advantages of this type of foundation: ⠀

➕ Large-scale earthwork is not required for the USP device. It is enough to remove the fertile layer of soil and prepare the base ⠀
➕ USP can be arranged on almost any type of soil ⠀
➕ All the necessary engineering communications are integrated into the USP ⠀
➕ Due to the smooth surface of the slab, there is no need to arrange a leveling screed before laying the final floor covering ⠀
➕ Due to thermal insulation and the installation of an insulated blind area and drainage system, the soil does not freeze under the UWP and the foundation is not exposed to frost heaving forces ⠀
➕ UWB is built faster than a classic strip or slab foundation ⠀

enrgo_doma ⠀
On average, for the manufacture of a foundation with an area of 100 square meters. m, it takes 7-10 days. Practice shows that it will take about 25-30 days to make a traditional foundation with the same set of utilities, and its final price will be 20-30% higher than the cost of an insulated Swedish stove. ⠀

USP is a heat storage foundation. It accumulates heat well and gives it away for a long time, not heating the soil, but the house, due to the closed thermal insulation sheath without thermal bridges, even when the heating system is turned off, the house will maintain heat for a long time. ⠀

USP has minuses: ⠀

➖ Low basement. On average, the UWP height does not exceed 0.3-0.4 m ⠀
➖ The lack of a basement (Although if there is such a request, we will do with the basement) ⠀
➖ In uneven areas, with a large slope, you must first align the area under the foundation. This increases the volume of earthwork ⠀
➖ Since all utilities are monolithic in the stove, and access to them is impossible or much more difficult, the requirements for the qualifications of workers, materials used and installation techniques are increasing возраст

🏠 Conclusions: ⠀
At the moment, UWB is one of the most high-tech and energy-efficient types of foundations. The insulated Swedish stove simultaneously serves as a reliable foundation, floor and floor of the first floor, and a place for laying utilities. ⠀

Этапы УШП

The main stages of the construction of USP

⠀ Step by step look like this: ⠀
1. Mark the location of the foundation and dig a pit to a depth of 300-400 mm, completely choosing the soil and plant soil ⠀
2. Dig a drainage trench around the perimeter of the foundation ⠀
3. Place a layer of geotextile ⠀ on the bottom of the pit and drainage ditch ⠀
4. Layer the foundation pit with crushed stone and sand of medium size, with mandatory wetting and tamping of each layer ⠀
5. Install the embedded pipes for the inlet of water, sewage and mount the drainage system ⠀
6. Lay on the prepared foundation, first of all, along the perimeter of the future foundation, on-board elements from L-blocks made directly on the object from extruded polystyrene foam and the main layer of insulation. Additional insulation layers are also laid ⠀
7. Mount and install the reinforcement cage and foundation reinforcement mesh ⠀
8. Lay and fix water pipes on the lower reinforcing belt of the reinforcing cage and insulate them ⠀
9. Lay the underfloor heating pipes along the previously laid reinforcing mesh, fixing the pipelines with plastic clamps or a knitting wire ⠀
10. Install the distribution manifold, fill the system with a coolant, such as water, and conduct a hydraulic test of the underfloor heating system and water distribution ⠀
11. After a successful hydraulic test, put the concrete mixture into the extrusion polystyrene formwork ⠀
12. Level the concrete mix with a vibrorail ⠀
13. After laying the concrete and setting the mixture, rub the concrete surface with a trowel with a disc ⠀
14. After the concrete has set the required strength, flush and heat test the underfloor heating system ⠀

🏁 The result of the work is the finished surface of the USP base ⠀

⠀ Underfloor heating pipes are included in the stove, which are part of a low-temperature heating system. Such a floor, due to the optimal temperature distribution along the height of the room and radiant heat transfer, provides a person with increased thermal comfort. ⠀

Cross-linked polyethylene pipes can be used to install the underfloor heating in the USP. These pipelines have the best thermal conductivity, throughput, mechanical strength, reliability and durability. The diameter of the pipeline is selected during the hydraulic calculation, from the size range: 14, 17, 20 mm (outer diameter of the pipeline) based on the condition that the hydraulic losses of the most unfavorable circuit in the system (the longest and most loaded) do not exceed 30 kPa. ⠀

⚙ Installation of pipes made of cross-linked polyethylene ⠀
allowed at ambient temperatures from + 50 ° C to -10 ° C. Pipes are connected using sliding sleeves, which increases the speed of installation and ensures the tightness of the joints. ⠀

⛓ Among the advantages of such pipes, we highlight: ⠀
Pipes can bend without fracture with a radius equal to 5 diameters, which is very important, because pipes are laid in small steps in the underfloor heating circuits and constantly change direction by 90 or 180 °. °
Both pipes and fittings attached to them on a sliding sleeve are reliable and durable. Pipes are resistant to mechanical stress, both in the process of their installation, and when pouring USP. Fracture or mechanical deformation of the pipe, which the installer can allow, is eliminated by heating with a hairdryer without changing the technical characteristics of the pipelines. ⠀

⛏ The water inlet should be laid without a channel, in a trench at a depth of 0.5 m below the freezing depth. A layer of sand of fraction 0/8 with a thickness of at least 100 mm should be poured at the bottom of the trench. ⠀

🔩 We recommend connecting the drainage system under the slab of the monolithic insulated foundation of the USP to sound-absorbing sewer pipes. Pipes are laid in trenches under a sand cushion. ⠀

Materials for the construction of USP ⠀

There are a number of popular myths that USP is too expensive, difficult to erect. And the most interesting fears are expressed in the fact that the insulation is in the ground, under the foundation, and all communications are poured into concrete. There are concerns such as “what if”: ⠀

➖ Is the insulation life suddenly shorter? ⠀
➖ Is the stove saturated with moisture and deformed under the weight of the house? ⠀
➖ The pipes will flow ⠀
water supply or underfloor heating? ⠀
Are these assumptions real? ⠀

@energo_doma
Extrusion polystyrene foam (XPS) is optimally suited for the installation of the base of the ACP. Due to its physical and mechanical properties, the material has a low coefficient of thermal conductivity (0.034 W / (m * ° C) under operating conditions "A and" B). ⠀

XPS Specifications: ⠀
🔸 Compressive strength, at 10% linear strain, at least 400 kPa ⠀
🔸 Water absorption coefficient of not more than 0.4% by volume ⠀
🔸 Not subject to decay and chemically resistant ⠀
🔸 At least 50 years service life in soil ⠀
🔸 Does not absorb moisture ⠀
🔸 Biopassive (this means that the material does not attract rodents, and is not subject to the negative effects of insect pests) ⠀

☑ Light weight and ease of processing of insulation, makes all work on the construction of the foundation of the USP easier. Extruded polystyrene foam is easily cut with a knife or a hacksaw, and lateral elements (L-blocks) are quickly assembled on the basis of plates, with the help of which a contour of the future structure is formed.

☑ Thanks to all of the above XPS features, the foundation erection speed is increased by 30% compared to the deep foundation strip foundation. ⠀

☑ One of the main advantages of UWB technology is that after laying concrete and gaining the necessary strength, L-blocks from extruded polystyrene foam do not need to be dismantled, they already act as a ready-made heat-insulating foundation element. ⠀

Insulated Swedish Plate

Foundation Warmed Swedish Plate: general basic information. ⠀
What materials to use during the construction, pluses, minuses, the main stages of the foundation. ⠀

The foundation of the house is the foundation. In Europe, the insulated slab foundation of shallow laying - USP is popular. What are its advantages? You will learn about this from the series of our posts Insulated Swedish Plate: instructions for the implementation of the slab foundation with engineering systems. ⠀

❓What is UWB? ⠀

USP is a shallow foundation slab with a drainage system insulated under the entire sole and along the perimeter of the base. A key feature of USP is that all the necessary engineering communications are integrated into the stove: ⠀

Low-temperature heating system - underfloor heating. ⠀
Water and sewage pipes. ⠀

In addition, the surface of the UWB u ⠀
thanks to leveling, this is nothing more than a finished draft floor of the first floor, on which you can immediately lay the finish flooring. For example, ceramic tiles. ⠀

Thus, USP —⠀
This is not just a foundation, but a highly efficient system with all the built-in communications for a country house. ⠀
The USP foundation came to Russia from European countries. Superiority in its development is given to the Swedish company Dorocell. Then USP has spread throughout Germany and Scandinavia. In recent years, the popularity of this foundation in the Russian Federation has greatly increased. Frame and wooden houses, monolithic cottages, houses made of aerated concrete, wood concrete and warm ceramics are put on the USP. Since the UWB is well insulated, it is often used for the construction of energy-efficient buildings with a closed thermal circuit without cold bridges. ⠀

Foundations without insulation lose some of the thermal energy that the heating system has generated. ⠀
Despite the advantages of USP and a well-developed construction technology, domestic developers have many questions related to the nuances of its construction and operation. ⠀

@energo_doma have long answered most of them and are ready to share their experience with you! ⠀
